Triennial XII

Chinese Flag Joins Roster of Triennial XII Countries

CHICAGO, IL (June 20, 2007) – For the first time in the history of the Women Ministries Triennial meetings, the Chinese flag will be carried by a woman from this communist country.

The woman, who is referred to only as Susan for security purposes, received her visa this week to travel to the United States for Triennial XII, to be held August 9-12 in Chicago. The North Pacific Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church is sponsoring her trip.

Susan became a believer following several encounters with Covenanters from Oklahoma who were in China on a work-related trip. The same Covenanters opened an English and computer science post-high school training center, and teacher Barbara Johnson befriended Susan.

“I had the privilege of meeting Susan and having dinner when I visited Barbara in 2005,” says Ruth Hill, executive minister of Women Ministries. “We dreamed about her coming to Triennial even then.”

The Women Ministries “Raise the Flag” initiative in all the conferences seeks to secure sponsors for international representatives so they can attend Triennials.

The initiative has faced obstacles this year because visas have proven more difficult to obtain than in the past. Visas for all the candidates from Congo, Mexico and Colombia were denied, Hill says.

The women’s poverty has been the primary reason for the denials, Hill says. U.S. State Department officials were concerned that the women would not return to their home countries, even though they were leaving small children behind.

Lily Yakote, director of the
Educate the Girls program in Congo, recently lost her appeal. “We are still waiting for news from leaders in Ecuador and Sudan,” Hill says. “The Sudanese woman is traveling right now to Nairobi, Kenya, to apply for her visa since there is no U.S. Consulate in Sudan.”

Other women who have obtained visas are coming from Germany, Japan, Russia, Czech Republic and Spain. Alternate leaders with visas have been found from Mexico, Congo and Colombia.

More than 1,000 women already have registered for the event. Registrations are still being accepted, Hill notes. To register or to obtain more information, visit
Triennial XII.

Raise the Flag

NPC WM is excited to announce that our conference is privileged to sponsor a woman from China!  Watch this page for new information about her.  We estimate that it will cost $ 3,800 to bring our guest to Triennial XII in Chicago, August 2007.  We would love for her to savor the rich experience of Triennial with all of us sisters in Christ, as we worship, learn, fellowship, and strengthen our faith together.  In 2004, it was the partnership of the women in the North Pacific Conference that allowed NPC WM to co-sponsor Pastor Kikwiti from Congo to Triennial XI.  Many of us were truly blessed to hear her story when she and nurse Beawe traveled to several churches after Triennial.  We anticipate the same visiting opportunities with our guest from China during the two weeks prior to Triennial XII.   May your generosity be part of a wonderful life event for our guest from China.

Great News!  Our Triennial guest from China has been identified, but only as "Susan" for her protection.  We are honored to be part of her experience to our country and to our North Pacific Conference.  You won't be able to read personally identified information about Susan on this webpage but you will be able to meet her in person!  Would your North Pacific Conference church like to host Susan for a brief visit prior to Triennial XII?  Of course, you will also meet her at Triennial XII, as women from around the world convene to share in that deep spiritual refreshment.

Team Up to Bring
Covenant Women from Around the World
(Blantantly copied from the Triennial XII site http://www.triennialxii.org/index_m.htm#Raise)

Part of the richness of the Triennial experience is the joy of meeting others and learning of the commonalties we enjoy in Jesus Christ. These experiences are accelerated exponentially when we encounter women of other countries and cultures. While it has been a tradition to welcome women from various mission fields around the world, a special initiative is being launched for Triennial XII.

We are inviting conferences to choose from five CONTINENTS and work together across the denomination to bring a woman from each of the 22 countries in which the Covenant has partnerships – TWICE AS MANY WOMEN AS BEFORE!

We’re challenging the women of the Covenant to pool their financial resources to bring women from foreign fields who would not otherwise be able to attend Triennial XII. The challenge to give will be presented to our many regional retreats, individual churches, conferences, districts and individuals. In this way we will enable a meaningful cross-cultural exchange. The involvement of these many women not only enriches the Triennial, it provides an incredible boost and encouragement to those who are able to attend because of the generosity of Covenant women across North America.

Newsflash -- Free Early Bird Registrations
Women, if you have never been to a Triennial, 2007 could very well be your year to go.  Your North Pacific Conference Women Ministries board will give away FIVE early bird registrations ($250 each) for Triennial XII in Chicago, August 9-12, 2007.  Take a look at the Triennial XII website and you will understand what an incredible blessing God is creating for us!  You are eligible for this drawing if you are a woman living in the North Pacific Conference area (Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana) who:

1.   has never been to Triennial before, and
2.   would need financial assistance in order to attend Triennial XII.

You may download entry forms (rich text format, 41K) from the website.  Additionally, they will be offered at the NPC WM Retreat, Sept 15 - 17, 2006, and you can also enter by emailing your entry to the NPC WM Board, at chair@npc-cwm.org.  Simply state in your email entry that you have not been to Triennial before and that you would need financial assistance to go, along with your name, church (if any), and contact information (address, phone, email).  That's it!  It's all on the honor system and and that's all you have to do to be in the drawing pool!  If your name is drawn, you will be contacted with the details.  The NPC WM Board would like to give as many woman as possible a chance to enter, yet allow enough time for those drawn to make plans and save up the rest of the expenses needed to make the exciting trip to Chicago for Triennial XII!  The deadline for entering the Free Early Bird Registration Drawing is the end of the year, December 31, 2006.  The 5 winners will be drawn at a board meeting in mid-January and posted on our website ASAP.  Hope to see you in Chicago!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at the same address: chair@npc-cwm.org

Triennial XII General Information
This information is from the Evangelical Covenant Website (http://www.covchurch.org)

Triennial is the once-every-three-years gathering of the women of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Set for August 9-12, 2007, Triennial XII will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, McCormick, complex in Chicago, Illinois.

But Triennial is more than a gathering. It is an eventful experience, even a watermark, in the lives of those who come. It is a place to enjoy fellowship of the richest kind with women from all over the country, and all over the world. It is a time to worship God with fullness and joy. It is a place to learn and grow and develop skills to strengthen your spiritual life, or to begin new life with Jesus Christ! It is a moment to relax, unwind, and experience something that you've never done--and to find joy and energy and peace in all of it.

Whatever you do, don't miss Triennial XII! The speakers, presenters, worship team and resources being assembled are the best ever – all designed with the women of the Covenant in mind, as well as their friends and loved ones. We travel from all points around North America and the world to meet face-to-face to enjoy and celebrate our similarities and differences in the Lord Jesus Christ."
