 Fall 2008 Retreat Information

Retreat Committee Chair: Bobette Scheid

“ Identity Theft: Who’s Stealing Yours?”
"It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for."

Eph 1:11, Message

 Rev. Lisa Orris
Pastor of Church Growth and Evangelism

Do you know who you are and what you are worth? Do you identify yourself by the title society has given you – mother, wife, daughter, aunt, sister, grandmother or CEO? Lisa Orris will speak on how you can break out of the box society has put you in and reach the potential God had in mind when He created you.

All women are invited to the
2008 NPC Women Ministry Retreat
September 19th-21st
At Cascades Camp and Conference Center, Yelm WA

Our speaker Lisa Orris, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology from Gannon University in Erie, PA in 1986. She was a drug and alcohol counselor as well as a counselor in correctional facilities until God decided He had other plans for her life ....motherhood! She is the mother to 3 teenagers and married to a pastor.

While Lisa would consider motherhood her highest and most important calling, after a period of time she could no longer deny the gifts the Lord was unearthing within her to communicate Gods Word. Lisa earned her Masters of Divinity from North Park Theological Seminary in May. 2006, and accepted a call to the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism. She serves as the project coordinator for evangelism coaching and has been leading evangelism seminars throughout the country for the last five years. She has also led many Bible Studies, small groups and continues to preach and teach at many churches and retreats.

“Exercise for Health”
Come join us for a great informational/working seminar that will help you learn ways to stay fit whether you are at home or the gym.  Come and hear the importance of exercise and learn practical exercises that will help you keep in shape without spending a lot of money or time.  Come and learn how just 30 minutes of weight training / toning exercises along with cardio, such as walking, running, swimming or biking, 3 times a week can help you work off the stress of your week and feel great.  Come and see how women of all ages and activity levels can benefit.  Alternate exercises will be included for those who have knee, back or other pain problems.
Linda Gersib & Karen Donnelly, River Ridge Covenant, Tacoma, WA

“Mothering Madness: Learning to Breathe”
Come, share, relax, laugh and learn to take care of yourself as well as you do everyone else.  God calls us to wholeness in body (yes you do have one) mind (if you remember where you left it) and Spirit (God is very fond of you!)
Kari Johnson, Pastor’s wife of a church plant in Bend, Oregon, NPC Ministry Coach.

“Journey to Reconciliation”
Come learn about, or get an update on, the Journey to Mosaic—North Pacific. On J2M, each participant travels with a partner of a different ethnicity, experiences our racial history here in the Pacific Northwest, visits amazing cultural sites and hears from speakers who experienced first hand the Japanese internment, and much more of our rich, and sometimes painful, racial history here in the Pacific Northwest.   In this seminar we will consider what all this has to do with the Kingdom of God and our mission and call to be a “mosaic people.”
A panel will share from their experience on Journey to Mosaic-North Pacific.   Come hear about why we’re doing J2M and what’s coming up in the next year that you might want to be part of!
Panel: Janet Batiste, Bobette Scheid, Joan Selvig, Lenore Thee Stars & Caenisha Warren.
Krisann Jarvis Foss, Cedarcreek Covenant, WA, NPC Director of Conference Ministries

“On Step Closer”
What is the first image that comes to your mind when you hear the word evangelism? Perhaps you recall an uncomfortable experience or a negative portrayal on TV.  It is important to recognize paradigms are shifting, and new themes affect the way we share our faith. People today are spiritual but not dogmatic. They want to know God is real. They are looking for stories, experiences, and connections to God. These realities compel us to reinvent how we practice sharing the good news about Jesus.  We recognize the need to articulate a biblical view of evangelism because people in our culture are not responding and people in our churches are not engaged.
Come and learn that evangelism is more than “closing the deal.”  You will discover the many misconceptions and often forgotten aspects of the evangelism process.   You will learn and rethink your call as a witness and the hope of how God will use you in the process of bringing a person one-step closer to Christ.
Rev. Lisa Orris, Keynote speaker

 "Craving Balance"
Do you hunt for new ways to make your life more balanced:  productive, industrious, soulful and quiet all at the same time?  This seminar will share insights on ways to manage the balancing act in our hectic lives.
JJ Pritchett, River Ridge Covenant in Tacoma, WA

“ Life in the Kingdom Culture”
There is a culture that transcends all others in custom, beauty and importance.
How do we recognize members of this culture, in all their diversities?
What unifies them?
What are their attributes?
Scriptures:
1 John 3:2, 11, 14, 18, 19, 23, 24

Dr. O. Virginia Phillips, Tigard Covenant in Oregon
