Food Crises Underscores Need
for Economic Development
Dear
Covenanter:
Sunday of last
week the
Washington Post began a five day report on the food crisis.
I could not believe that it was happening; I was glad that this story made
the front page, but at the same time was deeply saddened knowing that many
people are working hard to address this problem. For almost a year now I
have heard nearly every day the horrible statistics around the growing
food crisis, but reading the newspaper that Sunday morning grieved my
heart deeply. I know that I am engaged in the issue, specially this year
of internship at Bread for the World, but I felt that is not enough. Many
questions came to mind, specially the question of faithful discipleship. I
looked at my own life and I asked the question: Am I faithful to you my
dear LORD? Last week was filled with days of heartache.
You are receiving this email
because I felt moved to act this way. I am humbly calling on you because
of our siblinghood in Christ to pray and engage others in acting on our
responsibility to God’s beloved children here in the USA and everywhere
else. I call on you to encourage your congregations to give to Covenant
World Relief so that we can continue to address the immediate need while
actively addressing the root causes of hunger.
My internship site Bread for the
World’s mission is to address this very problem of systemic hunger and has
done so for many years. The present food crisis moved Bread for the World
to develop additional resources for individuals and congregations. Bread
for the World is calling people of faith to take on a special time to pray
an act starting Mother’s Day. Go to the website for more information

I hope this resource is helpful
to you.
May the Holy Sprit be with you today in an
out of the ordinary way!
